Department of Basic Science is committed to nurturing a culture of research and innovation from first year level. Department identifies the students and provide them with support for R&D activities, such as paper presentations and mini projects. This early exposure allows them to develop their research skills and gain valuable experience that will benefit them throughout their academic careers. Faculty members are actively engaged in research that contributes to advancements in scientific knowledge, education, and teaching methods.

Their expertise enhances classroom instruction and exposes students to the latest developments in their fields. The department has recognized Research Supervisors in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The Department is recognized as one of its research center (Mathematics) by the VTU during the year 2019. Currently 07 research scholars are pursuing Ph.D programme. The thrust areas of research of the department are Graph Theory and Fluid Mechanics.

Key Research Areas

1. Material Science

  • Synthesis of different Nanomaterials for electronics, medicine, energy storage, and environmental remediation.
  • Investigating materials that can help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and promote renewable energy.
  • 2. Crystallography

  • Structural determination using X-rays to determine the three-dimensional structure of molecules, proteins, and other complex materials.
  • Developing new drugs by understanding the structure of target molecules.
  • The design and synthesis of crystalline materials with desired properties by understanding how molecules pack into crystals.
  • 3. Graph Theory

  • Study of graphs that can be drawn on a plane without edges crossing.
  • Assigning colors to vertices such that no two adjacent vertices share the same color. Applications in scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Studying the properties of graphs generated by a random process. Widely used in modeling networks.
  • Our Impact
Our research has achieved significant breakthroughs in Material Science, Crystallography and Graph Theory, advancing both academic knowledge and practical applications. Our work is published in leading journals and presented at international and national conferences. Through collaborations with industry and academia, our research focuses on addressing real-world digital security challenges and driving tangible improvements in the field.

    Collaborate With Us
We are actively seeking new collaborators to expand our network. Whether you are a fellow researcher, industry professional, or organization interested in advancing your knowledge of graph theory, material science, and crystallography, we invite you to connect with us.
