MECHNICAL ENGINEERING

Overview

The Mechanical Engineering Program at Sri Venkateshwara College of Engineering (SVCE), Bangalore, is dedicated to advancing knowledge and innovation through impactful research and development. With a strong foundation in core mechanical sciences and a forward-looking orientation towards solving real-world problems, the Program is actively contributing to industrial growth, sustainable technologies, and societal well-being. Its research activities span a wide spectrum, including thermal and energy systems, renewable energy, hydrogen technologies, waste-heat recovery, and sustainable power generation; advanced materials and design, such as composites, smart and lightweight materials, and structural optimization; manufacturing and automation through additive manufacturing, robotics, mechatronics, precision machining, and Industry 4.0-driven processes; computational and simulation studies involving CFD, FEA, vibration and flutter analysis, and multiphysics modelling; and automotive and mobility solutions focusing on electric and hybrid vehicles, autonomous systems, and alternative fuels.

Faculty members of the Program have successfully undertaken funded projects and consultancy assignments that reflect strong academic–industry collaboration. Notable projects include the failure analysis of UHC borewell drill bits, sponsored by industry, and the conversion of waste sources to biofuels for IC engines, supported by external funding. These initiatives highlight the Program’s ability to translate fundamental research into applied solutions with direct societal and industrial impact.

In parallel, the Program fosters a culture of innovation and applied research among students, encouraging their participation in national-level competitions such as SAE, ISHRAE, and various design challenges. Students have demonstrated creativity and technical excellence through prototypes in energy-efficient vehicles, sustainable energy systems, and smart automation, bringing recognition to the institution.

Looking to the future, the Program of Mechanical Engineering aims to expand its research in sustainable energy technologies, robotics and automation, advanced manufacturing, Industry 4.0, and intelligent materials. By combining funded projects, consultancy work, and student-driven innovation, it is steadily progressing towards becoming a hub for sustainable engineering, industrial innovation, and societal impact.
